About Us
what is kgf?
The Kigezi Goat Foundation KGF is a non-government organization working with communities in the region of Kigezi and beyond to conserve the Kigezi goats while improving the livelihoods for rural small holder farmers, specifically women and youth using the Kigezi goat breed. Our work started in 2021 with a group of young men and women who felt the need to give back to their respective communities, the need to touch people’s lives using the Kigezi goat, a very beautiful resilient goat that is indigenous to the region of Kigezi, on the verge of facing extinction. It’s the desire to save the Kigezi goat, our indigenous breed that led to the initiative of supporting women and youth to be economically active and have them engaged in livestock production.

Preserving and promoting the endangered indigenous Kigezi goats to improve food security, social cultural wealth and the incomes of rural women and youth.
our story
The concept of starting the Kigezi Goat Foundation was idealized after noticing how it was becoming difficult to come across a Kigezi goat breed in Uganda, Kigezi goats are one of the most beautiful goats, highly resistant to environmental harshness and one of the few indigenous goat breeds we have in Uganda. Young men and women hailing from different parts of Uganda, specifically from Kigezi came together to establish this organization with the aim of giving back to the community using the goat as a tool to reach out to many young vulnerable women and youth in the rural areas of Kigezi and other parts of western Uganda.
